Voting ends peacefully, claims EC secretary

Election Commission (EC) Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed said voting ended on Sunday in peaceful manner across the country with massive and enthusiastic participation of voters, reports BSS.

He made the statement while addressing the inaugural session of the results announcement of the 11th parliamentary elections in the city's commission office Sunday evening.

The secretary said voting of 22 out of 40,183 centres at 299 constituencies across the country have been suspended due to disturbances and irregularities.

"Vote of the remaining centres was held peacefully with enormous turnout of voters," Ahmed said.

Talking about violent incidents allegedly taken place at some places over the country, he said.

EC has already directed law enforcement agencies to investigate the untoward incidents.
