VP Nur still undecided on joining first DUCSU meet March 23

Newly-elected Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) vice-president (VP) Nurul Haque Nur is yet to decide whether he would join the maiden executive meeting of the DUCSU and hall unions, scheduled to be held on March 23.

The Dhaka University (DU) authorities on Monday night fixed the date for the first executive meeting the newly-elected representatives of the DUCSU and hall unions amid continuous agitations for fresh elections.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the DU provost committee, held at Abdul Matin Chowdhury Virtual Classroom on the campus with its chairman Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Akhraruzzaman.

Rashed Khan, who had contested the DUCSU polls from Nur's panel as general secretary candidate, told The FE that Nur would take the decision after discussion with the boycotting five panels.

If the general students have the consent, then Nur will will attend the meeting, he added.

Meanwhile, the DU VC has nominated Prof Shibli Rubayat Ul Islam, dean of the Faculty of Business Studies, as a treasurer of DUCSU, said a press release from the university.

According to the Article 6 (1) of the DUCSU Constitution, the VC made the nomination.

Five panels, Pragatisheel Chhatra Jote, Bangladesh General Student Rights Protection Council, Swatantra Jote, Swadhikar Swantra Parishad and Bangladesh Student Federation boycotted the March 11 elections bringing allegations of irregularities and vote rigging.

Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) on Tuesday brought out a procession demanding that the poll results be scrapped and a reschedule for fresh DUCSU elections be announced.

They brought out the procession from Madhur Canteen, which paraded different thoroughfares on the campus.

JCD central general secretary Akramul Hassan, DU unit president Al-Mehedi Talukder, its general secretary Abul Bashar Siddiqui, VP candidate Mostafizur Rahman, GS candidate Khandker Anisur Rahman Anik and other leaders attended the procession.
