ACC turns to cabinet secy as schools charge extra

Filling in SSC forms

FE Report | Friday, 9 November 2018

The national anti-graft watchdog has sought steps to check some schools overcharging students for filling in forms of Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exams.
To this end, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has written to the cabinet secretary, ACC sources said on Thursday.
A letter, signed by ACC acting secretary Sarwar Mahmud, cited an array of complaints the ACC has received on the matter.
Complaints have poured in to the commission about taking additional fees from the students aspiring to sit for the public exam to be held in 2019.
The ACC received complaints through its hotline-106 and electronic mail address.
Defying the fees fixed by the government, a section of dishonest teachers of different schools are involved in doing the unethical practice.
The ACC has already conducted drives at several schools and found proof of taking extra fees.
It also revealed that some schools are permitting students to fill in forms in exchange for money despite their failure to pass test exams.
Against this backdrop, the ACC has called for steps by relevant government departments to prevent corruption and irregularities.
