Bangladesh's power generation capacity now 18,353MW: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said in parliament on Wednesday that the country's power generation capacity is now 18,353-megawatt (MW) including the captive power.
She said the government has undertaken a programme to purchase 2,336 MW power from India by the year 2022, reports BSS.
Under the programme, this year 500 MW power will be purchased from India, she said in written reply to a question from treasury bench member Nurunnobi Chowdhury.
Sheikh Hasina said the country's power generation will be 24,000 MW by 2021 and 60,000 MW by 2041.
Replying to another question from a Jatiya Party MP, the prime minister said construction of 100 model mosques will begin this year in the second phase of a project.
The mosque will be constructed as part of the project undertaken by the present government for building one mosque and cultural centre at upazilas and district level.
All mosques will be constructed all over the country gradually, Sheikh Hasina told the House in reply to the question put up by Jatiya Party member Rustam Ali Faraji.
