BASIS set to reward 105 outstanding innovators

Distribution of 'BASIS National ICT Awards 2019' in city on Saturday

The Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) will honour 105 individuals and organisations in 35 categories for their outstanding innovation in the country's ICT sector.
The 'BASIS National ICT Awards 2019' will be handed over to them at a grand award-giving ceremony at Radisson Blu Dhaka Water Garden in the city on Saturday.
The winners of the BASIS national ICT awards will be nominated for the annual Asia Pacific ICT Alliance Awards (APICTA Awards 2019) to be held at Ha Long Bay, Vietnam, in November this year.
Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud will be present as the chief guest at the third edition of the event.
The announcement came at a press conference at the BASIS auditorium, organised by the BASIS with the support of IPDC Finance Limited.
BASIS President Syed Almas Kabir, Vice President (Finance) Mushfiqur Rahman and Convener of BASIS National ICT Awards and BASIS Director Didarul Alam attended the press conference.
Besides, IPDC Finance Limited Managing Director & CEO Mominul Islam and DMD and Head of Business Finance Rizwan Dawood Shams were also present at the event.
The BASIS has received 1,175 applications from across the country this year from students and organisations. Among them, 225 have qualified to present their innovative projects.
Speaking at the press conference, Almas Kabir said innovative and prospective ICT projects of the country would be recognised and selected for the awards.
The best candidates would be picked through a robust judging process. These projects would depict the potential of Bangladesh's ICT sector, the BASIS president added.
Addressing the programme, Mominul said the awards are aimed at recognising outstanding achievements of individuals, students, entrepreneurs, SMEs and organisations with operations in the country.
The will get due recognition for their contribution in developing Digital Bangladesh initiatives or building applications and services for the benefit of the country, he added.
Didarul Alam said, the 'BASIS National ICT Awards 2019 is being arranged as per the standard of the APICTA Awards.
There will be lesser show and cultural fest. Winners will be rewarded with brand new awards prepared for this grand event, he added.
At the press briefing, the IPDC Finance also announced joining hands with the BASIS to organise BASIS national ICT awards for the next five years.
The two entities signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in this regard at the press conference.
