BOGURA, June 11: Sweet potato cultivators in the district are happy over fair market price of their produce this season.
The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office sources said over 200 tonnes of sweet potato have been produced in the district during the last Rabi season.
Each maund of sweet potato is being sold at Tk 1,500 to Tk 1,600 in the retail markets and Tk 1,300 to Tk 1,400 in the wholesale markets.
Agriculturist Azizur Rahman said a good number of char people cultivated the item as the sandy land is suitable for the production of sweet potato.
Sweet potato cultivation requires low cost but the farmers can make a healthy profit.
Deputy Director of Bogura DAE said grassroots growers should expand sweet potato cultivation as it can be produced without any fertiliser and irrigation.
