Murder of Mahfuza Chy

FE Report | Tuesday, 12 February 2019

A case was filed on Monday with the New Market Police Station against two domestic helps for the suspected murder of Mahfuza Chowdhury Parvin, former principal of Eden Mohila College.
The domestic helps, who went into hiding after the incident, are Ruma alias Reshma, 30, and Shopna, 35, said sub-inspector Atikur Rahman Biswas of New Market Police Station.
The deceased's husband Ismat Quadir Gama filed the case after autopsy confirmed the strangulation of principal Parvin, who was found dead on Sunday night.
Dr Sohel Mahmud, head of Forensic Department of Dhaka Medical College hospital (DMCH), told reporters that two or more persons strangulated her.
Quadir found his wife lying face down on bed at around 6.0 pm on Sunday with valuables scattered all over the room.
There were three domestic helps in the house. Reshma and Shopna were missing. A third help, an elderly woman, was detained for quizzing.
Police suspect that the absconding domestic helpers, who had been working there for one and a half months, killed her and fled with the valuables.
Mahfuza was the principal of Eden Mohila College from February 2009 to April 2012.
