Gross irregularities in DUCSU polls

It is very unfortunate that most student wings boycotted DUCSU polls over allegations of massive irregularities. They also demanded fresh polls. Many irregularities have been reported in the DUCSU polls. For example, the polling continued with periodic halts at some centres. General students and witnesses also observed various wrongdoings including rigging. Many students could not vote due to spelling errors. The most irregularities were found in Bangladesh-Kuwait Maitree Hall and Begum Rokeya Hall.
The DUCSU election held after 29 years held great promise for students and culture of election. The former students of Dhaka University are very ashamed of the affairs that vitiated the DUCSU polls. Many elected members of the DUCSU during Pakistani rule have noted that such irregularities did not occur in those times even.
The DU is called the Oxford of the East. It has been the hub of many progressive movements in our glorious history. This campus is the best place to acquire knowledge, be engaged in cultural activities etc. Thus it is sad to see that such irregularities occurred in one of its most important elections.
The DU authority concerned should look into all the gross irregularities held in the DUCSU polls and take necessary steps to address them.
