Home minister seeks cooperation of all to eradicate illegal drugs

CHATTOGRAM, Mar 14 (UNB): Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan on Thursday sought cooperation from the people to eradicate illegal drugs, recalling the cooperative role they played in controlling militancy.
The home minister wanted the people's support for elimination of drugs while addressing an anti-drug and anti-militancy rally after visiting Raozan police station in Chattagram on Thursday.
He said, "A vested quarter had started propaganda in the name of militancy through targeted killings to make the country ineffective.
As the Prime Minister called upon the countrymen to stand against militancy, the people took a stand against militancy by responding to her call.
Bangladesh is militant-free in collaboration with the people."
Now the Prime Minister has declared zero tolerance against drugs. Therefore, we want people's participation in drug-eliminating programmes, he added.
Describing bad consequence of drugs, the Home Minister urged the students, especially youths to protect themselves from aggression of drug.
He asked drug traders/smugglers to do other business instead of drugs.
Otherwise, he warned them of dire consequences.
In order to sustain the economic development of the country, the government reiterated its tough position against the drug, he said.
The anti-drug rally was attended, among others, by local parliament member ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury, Deputy Inspector General of Chittagong range, Superintendent of Police (SP) of Chattagram district and various people of different strata of the society.
After conclusion of the anti-drug and anti-militancy rally, the Home Minister inaugurated the newly constructed East Gujra Investigation Centre in Raozan.
