Thursday, 14 March 2019

Awami League (AL) acting general secretary Mahbub-ul Alam Hanif said on Wednesday BNP joint-secretary general Rizvi Ahmed embarrassed his party Chairperson Khaleda Zia comparing her with the 'yaba traders', reports BSS.
"Begum Zia is now in jail on charge of a graft case . . . But the BNP leader dishonoured her (BNP chief) comparing her with the drug peddlers" he told a discussion as the chief guest at the National Press Club in the city.
Hanif's comments came as Rizvi said in a press conference that BNP Chairperson Zia was not getting necessary correctional (detention) facilities what are being usually provided even for a yaba trader inside the prison.
The AL acting general secretary also termed Rizvi's evaluation on her as a part of tarnishing Begum Zia's image, saying had Rizvi some political sense, he would have never uttered such words in this connection.
Referring to the DUCSU polls, Hanif said BNP is frequently accusing of involvement of the Awami League in the polls' process but the "AL and other parties had no involvement there at all"
On polls results, the AL spokesman also mentioned the precarious political condition of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) in the DUCSU polls and said they failed to impress the voters in the election.
"Had DUCSU elections not been held in a free, fair and neutral manner, how could other panels come out victorious," the senior ruling party leader said.
He said there were some allegations of misunderstanding over the polls but the university authorities tried their level best to resolve the problems on an urgent basis.
Congratulating the newly-elected representatives of the Dhaka University Central Student Union (DUCSU) and hall unions, Hanif said all the misunderstandings and confusions centring the polls are over now and everyone elected ones should start their respective duties as per the expectation of the students.
While talking about Bangabandhu's historic 7th March speech, the AL general secretary said it will inspire the oppressed people across the world for eras to fight for establishing their rights.
Former minister Advocate Quamrul Islam, AL organising secretary and Jatiya Sangsad whip Abu Sayeed Al-Mahmud Swapan, Dhaka South City unit AL general secretary Shahe Alam Murad, joint secretary Kamal Chowdhury, Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) general secretary Sohel Haider Chowdhury and Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote general secretary Arun Sarker Rana, among others, spoke at the discussion.
Swapna Foundation organised the discussion on 'Bangabandhu and Agnijhora March'with its chairman M Riaz Uddin Ahmed in the chair.
