KABUL, July 11: Two suicide bombers stormed an education department building in Afghanistan's eastern Nangarhar province Wednesday, killing at least 10 people, a provincial official said. Gen. Ghulam Sanayee Stanekzai, Nangarhar provincial police chief, said one of the attackers detonated a vest full of explosives and a second was shot and killed by security forces. Eight others were wounded in the attack in Jalalabad, Stanekzai said. "A few offices and rooms in the building were burned down as a result of the attack," he said. Attahullah Khogyani, spokesman for the provincial governor, said by early afternoon the fighting was over.-AP
At least 11 dead in Iran bus collision with tanker
TEHRAN, July 11: At least 11 people died Wednesday when a fuel tanker collided with a bus in western Iran, state media reported. The vehicles crashed shortly after midnight (1900 GMT Tuesday) in Sanandaj, the capital of Iran's Kurdistan province, around 400 kilometres (250 miles) west of Tehran, according to state television. The IRNA news agency said four bus passengers and three passers-by were also injured in an "enormous explosion" following the collision. -- AFP
Japan disaster toll reaches 176
TOKYO, July 11: The death toll in the wake of torrential rains battering western Japan and caused devastating floods and fatal landslides reached 176 on Wednesday, authorities said. They also said that 80 people still remain unaccounted for as search and rescue missions continue to try to find people still stranded in buildings cutoff from roads due to flooding, buried beneath rubble from landslides, or in swollen rivers. —Xinhua
Suspected cattle thieves 'kill 26' in NW Nigeria
KANO, July 11: Twenty-six people were killed in two days of violence blamed on cattle thieves in northern Nigeria, the National Emergency Management Agency said on Wednesday. Bandits on motorcycles attacked several villages on both sides of the border between Sokoto and Zamfara states on Monday and Tuesday, shooting residents, burning homes and stealing cows. "At the moment, 26 dead bodies have been recovered from the attacks," NEMA spokesman Suleiman Kadir told AFP. "The toll may rise with the latest attack from yesterday (Tuesday)."—AFP
