Rajshahi PWD implements 247 projects

RAJSHAHI, Nov 17 (BSS): The Public Works Department (PWD) has implemented 247 projects involving around Tk 11.08 billion over the last 10 years in Rajshahi division benefiting its people in many ways.
PWD sources said the department has also been implementing many other development schemes at present with an estimated cost of around Tk 44.89 billion in the division comprising eight districts.
"We have implemented 70 projects relating to infrastructural development of police department both in rural and urban and semi-urban areas at a total cost of around Tk 1.63 billion," said Nazibur Rahman, additional chief engineer of the PWD.
Under a scheme to this effect, massive development has taken place at Bangladesh Police Academy at Sardah.
Construction of 26 Fire Service and Civil Defence stations and five regional passport offices was completed by spending Tk 655.2 million.
Side by side with construction of seven election server stations including regional one at Rajshahi, 50 land offices, 16 food godowns and seven freedom fighters' complexes were built.
Engineer Rahman said multi-storey chief judicial magistrate courts were constructed in Rajshahi, Chapainawabganj, Pabna, Bogura and Joypurhat districts besides vertical extension works of the district judge court building in Pabna and Natore.
Fifteen health sector development projects were implemented at a cost of around Taka 161.43 crore. Hostel buildings for the visually impaired children were built in Naogaon, Natore, Chapainawabganj, Bogura and Pabna districts.
In addition to construction of a textiles institute in Natore and a textile vocational institute at Chapainawabganj, one fashion design centre and a handloom service centre have been constructed at Sirajganj.
Two new technical training centres were established in Natore and Joypurhat districts.
A marine academy has been founded at Pabna while an institute of marine technology at Sirajganj. Construction of a complex for Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-5 has been completed at a cost of over Tk 757.2 million.
