FE Report | Thursday, 16 May 2019

A delegation from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) called on Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Chairman Kazi M. Aminul Islam at his office on Wednesday to review the progress of several MoUs earlier signed between the two countries.
A member of Dubai ruling family Sheikh Ahmed Dalmook Al Maktoum led the UAE delegation to the meeting, which was also attended by officials from both the countries.
The meeting held discussion on implementation of a couple of memorandum of understandings (MoUs) to set up power plants and a special economic zone, according to a statement.
Out of four MoUs, last two were signed in February last when Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina visited the gulf country.
As per the third MoU, the UAE will establish an 800-100 megawatt LNG power plant and another 100-megawatt solar power plant in Bangladesh. The UAE will also support Bangladesh to develop a special economic zone in Matarbari as per the fourth MoU.
Officials of the two countries discussed about the implementation process and overall progress of the agreements.
Mr Aminul Islam said the government agencies of Bangladesh like BIDA and other departments related to commerce, investment and energy pay highest attention to materialise the agreements with the UAE.
