Visitors flock to DITF

Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) 2019 saw a large number of visitors on Friday even though many stallholders are yet to complete their decoration works.
Visiting the fair venue, the FE correspondent found that different business organisations were still decorating their stalls and pavilions.
An official of a private organisation told the FE that they are expecting to finish the decoration works of their pavilion by Saturday.
Many visitors, mostly with their family members, thronged the fair on Friday, a weekly holiday.
They expressed satisfaction with the measures taken by the authority concerned to ensure their safety and security.
"I came here just to see the products, their prices and offer made by the organisations during the fair. I will choose and purchase products next week," Md Hossain Mollah who visited the fair on the day.
He, however, said he purchased some toys for his son.
The volume of trade on the day was insignificant, but plastic products and fast food were selling well, traders said.
The Ministry of Commerce and the Export Promotion Bureau have jointly organised the trade fair aiming to boost the country's exports.
President Abdul Hamid inaugurated the fair on January 09.
The fair usually kicks off on January 01, but this year it has been deferred by one week due to the December 30 parliamentary election.
The fair will remain open to visitors from 9:00 am to 10:00 pm every day. The entry fee for adults is Tk 30 and Tk 20 for minors.
There are around 550 stalls in the fair. Of them, 20 are for women entrepreneurs while 60 premier pavilions, 38 premier mini pavilions, 18 general pavilions, 29 general mini pavilions, 67 premier stalls, 26 foreign pavilions, 13 foreign premier stalls, 22 food stalls and three restaurants.
A high official of the MoC told the FE that mobile courts of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) are functioning during the fair for protecting the consumers' interests.
There are green zones at the fair venue to help the visitors roam on an open space.
Two eco-parks like Sundarban and digital experience centres (digital touch screen technology) have been set up on the fair venue to help the visitors find the stalls and pavilions.
Apart from Bangladesh, Australia, India, Pakistan, China, UK, Republic of South Korea, Malaysia, Iran, Thailand, USA, Turkey, Singapore, Nepal, Vietnam, Russia, Germany, and Hong Kong are participating in the month-long event.
