Water receding in Teesta river but erosion continues

NILPHAMARI, July 11: Water in the Teesta river which was flowing above the danger mark Tuesday has already been receded and came down below danger mark.
But due to river erosion some families of Jhunagarh Chapani union parishad of Dimla upazila has been shifted to high land and embankment.
Chairman of Jhunagarh Chapani UP Aminur Rahman said flood water entered such areas as Satunama char, Sonakhali char, Vendabari char and Forester char of the union.
He said 10 families who were victims of river erosion have been shifted to the river embankment area.
Executive Engineer of water development board of Dalia zone Rofiqul Islam Chowdhury said some locations of the embankment of Teesta river has been broken by flood water where sand bags are being piled up for protection and strengthening the same.
