One more dies of dengue in city

One person was reported dead from dengue virus infection in the capital on Saturday, although the number of newly admitted patients declined considerably.

The deceased was identified as Monwara Begum, 45, who died in Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) at 11 am.

She was admitted to DMCH on Tuesday after her situation deteriorated in a hospital in Mithamoin under Kishoreganj while diagnosed with dengue, according to Bacchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH police outpost.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the official death toll from dengue outbreak stands at 40 so far, although the number is over 96 as per unofficial count on the basis of media reports.

Meanwhile, the government has launched a mobile application (app) named 'Stop Dengue', by using which anyone can identify mosquito breeding place.

It will help mapping mosquito breeding places across the country, according to the DGHS statement.

This year, the number of clinically diagnosed cases of mosquito-borne dengue infection has reached 51,476 until Saturday, the DGHS data shows.

In the last 24 hours until 8:00 am on the day, 1,460 fresh patients were admitted to different hospitals with dengue fever, which is 15 per cent lower than that of the previous day.

Of the total patients, 621 were diagnosed positive in Dhaka city, and it is 18 per cent lower than the previous 24 hours, while 839 were outside the capital, and it is 13 per cent lower.

So far, around 85 per cent of the total patients or 43,580 people have returned home from the hospitals after treatment.

Currently, some 7,856 people are undergoing treatment in different hospitals across the country, of which 4,043 are in Dhaka, and 3,813 are in other districts.
