Arrest current slide, get back on track, Mashrafe tells teammates

Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza urged his side to get back on track and arrest their current slide as quickly as possible, reports Cricbuzz.

Bangladesh have been in the middle of a treacherous run in South Africa, having failed to win a single game. The treatment continued into the third ODI as well, when they were handed a 200-run defeat to end the series 0-3.

Speaking to the press after the defeat, Mortaza remarked that the current tour has been alarming for Bangladesh and its cricket.

"This tour has been alarming for Bangladesh cricket and with more bilateral tours and the World Cup coming up we, as a playing unit, have to look after these things quickly," Mortaza said. "We haven't adjusted to the conditions. But it has been happening since the Champions Trophy. We have to improve quickly or the overseas bilateral series in the future will become very difficult."

Bangladesh were expected to show more fight in ODIs after being thoroughly dominated in the Tests, but the results have once again been heavily in favour of the hosts. Bangladesh's misery continued in the ODI series as well with the hosts earning a 10-wicket win the opening game and later defeating the visitors by 104 runs to seal the fate of the series.

"I think we are not having enough confidence to bat and bowl," Mortaza explained. "Neither the batsmen nor the bowlers took up responsibilities. I think we have to find out from particular players why we are unable to play better and I don't think this can be solved by training a lot in South Africa in the coming days. This is a long-term issue, a long process."
