Banks show mixed performance in Q1

EPS of 11 banks decline out of 18 disclosed so far

The listed banks have exhibited mixed performance during the January-March quarter (Q1) of 2018 as some 18 banks so far published their un-audited financial statements.

The earnings per share (EPS) of many banks declined compared to same period of the previous year.

The banks reporting less EPS than that of the same period previous year are: Islami Bank Bangladesh, Rupali Bank, ONE Bank, Prime Bank, Southeast Bank, Mercantile Bank, Uttara Bank, Standard Bank, Eastern Bank, Dhaka Bank and Al-Arafa Islami Bank.

On the other hand, Jamuna Bank, United Commercial Bank (UCB), IFIC, Dutch-Bangla Bank, NCC Bank and Premier Bank reported higher EPS for the Q1, 2018 compared to Q1, 2017.

EXIM Bank's loss per share declined for January-March, 2018 compared to same period of the previous year. The company's consolidated loss was Tk 0.34 per share for January-March 2018 against the loss of Tk 0.53 per share for January-March 2017.

Islami Bank has reported consolidated EPS of Tk. 0.36 for Q1, 2018 as against Tk. 0.65 for Q1, 2017. The consolidated net asset value (NAV) per share was Tk. 31.83 as on March 31, 2018 and Tk. 30.01 as on March 31, 2017.

The consolidated EPS of Jamuna Bank was Tk. 0.52 for Q1, 2018 as against Tk. 0.39 for Q1, 2017. The consolidated NAV per share was Tk. 25.21 as on March 31, 2018 and Tk. 26.58 as on March 31, 2017.

Rupali Bank reported consolidated EPS of Tk. 0.27 for Q1, 2018 as against Tk. 0.38 for Q1, 2017. The consolidated NAV per share was Tk. 44.40 as on March 31, 2018 and Tk. 44.07 as on December 31, 2017.

The EPS of UCB was Tk. 0.31 for Q1, 2018 as against Tk. 0.10 for Q1, 2017. The NAV per share was Tk. 25.80 as on March 31, 2018 and Tk. 24.57 as on March 31, 2017.

ONE Bank reported consolidated EPS of Tk. 0.33 for Q1, 2018 as against Tk. 1.23 for Q1, 2017. The consolidated NAV per share was Tk. 19.79 as on March 31, 2018 and Tk. 19.48 as on December 31, 2017.
