IASB confce ends in London

More than 150 standard-setters from 70 jurisdictions across the globe gathered in London at the World Standard-setters Conference to discuss collaboration in accounting standard-setting, said a statement.

The conference, organized by the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) at London Canary Wharf Hotel, UK ended on Tuesday.

The Board invited two representatives from each jurisdiction's national standard-setter. Experts from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) Vice President Professor Dr. Md. Salim Uddin FCA and Director (Technical) Mahbub Ahmed Siddique FCA participated in the conference.

IASB, the only global accounting standard setting body, recently issued International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), the improvements and amendments to IFRS and other changes, up gradation and development related to IFRS formulated over the years were highlighted in the conference. The conference elaborately discussed the activities of different committees, their functions, role and implementation of IFRS globally.

In addition, seven (07) international sessions on IFRS such as Disclosure Initiative, Review for the IFRS for SMEs, Financial instruments, IFRS Interpretation Committee, Electronic Reporting, Business Combination and Islamic Finance were discussed in that two daylong conference. Among the topics mentioned above Dr Salim directly took part and represented two sessions relating to Electronic Reporting and Review for the IFRS for SMEs.
