ICSB for reducing corporate tax rate

Institute of Chartered Secretaries of Bangladesh (ICSB) has proposed to reduce the rate of corporate tax to a reasonable level in the upcoming national budget for attracting both local and foreign investments.

"This measure would help boost the industrial development in the country as well as create employment opportunities," the ICSB said in a statement.

ICSB issued the statement after a recent meeting with Md. Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan ndc, Senior Secretary of IRD and Chairman of National Board of Revenue (NBR).

The institute also recommended reducing the income tax rate of individual taxpayers from existing highest slab of 30 per cent to 25 per cent, which would help expand the tax net and increase revenue collection.

The NBR chairman assured the ICSB delegate to look into the matter and consider their proposals.

The ICSB delegation also urged the Chairman NBR to include the profession of Chartered Secretary as authorized representative under the Income Tax Ordinance, 1984 and as Mushuk Agent under the Value Added Tax and Supplementary Duty Act, 2012.

"The inclusion will help us appear before any income tax authority and the Appellate Tribunal for any proceeding all over the country," the statement added.

The NBR Chairman assured the delegation that earnest measures would be taken by NBR to include the ICSB profession as authorized representative under the Income Tax Ordinance, 1984 and Mushuk Agent under VAT Act, 2012.

Mohammad Asad Ullah FCS, Md. Azizur Rahman FCS, A.K.M. Mushfiqur Rahman FCS, Gopal Chandra Debnath FCS and Md. Anwar Hossain Chowdhury FCA, FCS were present on behalf of ICSB.
