FE Report | October 14, 2019 00:00:00

Agriculture Minister Dr Muhammad Abdur Razzaque urged on Sunday the officials of Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) to ensure practice of accountability and transparency while discharging their duties.

"The government has taken zero tolerance policy against corruption. So, everyone must work maintaining transparency and accountability," the minister observed while addressing a function marking the 58th founding anniversary of BADC in the city.

The farmers can hardly make the both ends meet with the meagre wages they earn, said a compassionate Abdur Razzaque.

Modernisation and commercialisation of agriculture could raise a ray of hope for the farmers, he added.

He stressed the need for increasing export of agriculture products through agro-processing.

Once there was a time when the higher-class people 'looked down their nose' at the peasants, but the scenario has changed as many educated youths from affluent families are now involved in agricultural activities, said Dr Razzaque.

The present government is providing all kinds of agricultural inputs, including fertilisers, to the farmers, paving the way for the country to attain self-sufficiency in food production, he added.

The minister unveiled a mural of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Bangabandhu Corner at BADC building in the city.

Chairman of BADC Md Sayedul Islam presided over the function attended, among others, by Agriculture Secretary Md Nasiruzzaman and Abdul Mannan, MP.
