Weekly Tea Market

Good liquoring teas see strong demand

January 17, 2019 00:00:00

Good liquoring teas were a strong feature in this sale and were well supported by all sections of the market. Consequently, prices for these moved up at times quite substantially. Medium varieties were again less sought after and suffered quite heavy withdrawals in the weekly auction market held in the port city on Tuesday.

Blenders were operating strongly particularly for the good liquoring varieties. Loose tea buyers lent lot more support than of late, according to a statement of Bangladesh Tea Board.

Dusts were a dearer market.

CTC LEAF: As many as 45,571 packages of Current Season and 31 packages of Old Season Teas on offer met with an improved demand.

BROKENS: Clean liquoring Brokens met with a fairly strong demand and were dearer often by Tk 5.0 to Tk10 and sometimes more. Their Medium varieties met with fewer enquiries and were easier with quite fair withdrawals.

The plainest were a strong market and were considerably dearer.

FANNINGS: All good liquoring Fannings met with a strong competition and were substantially dearer particularly the brighter lines. Mediums were only a fair market at easier rates following quality.

Withdrawals were once again quite heavy in this category. Here again plainest were a strong market at dearer rates.

CTC DUST: As many as 7,123 packages of Current Season Teas on offer met with quite a strong demand. Good liquoring well made and clean varieties met with good competition and were firm to slightly dearer.

The remainder also met with a fairly good competition and was barely steady with several withdrawals. Blenders lent strong support with fair interest from the Loose tea buyers.
