Weekly Tea Market

Price continues to decline

January 03, 2019 00:00:00

Price decline continued this week as buyers were following quality closely. Consequently, lower Medium and plain teas suffered heavily and majority of these were withdrawn without bids in the weekly tea auction market held in the port city on Tuesday.

Blenders lent fairly good support but Loose tea buyers were quiet, according to a statement of Bangladesh Tea Board (BTB) issued to the press.

Dusts sold fairly well.

CTC LEAF: AS many as 50,624 packages of Current Season and 746 packages of Old Season Teas on offer once again met with less demand with heavy withdrawals.

BROKENS: There was only a few clean Brokens which met with a fair demand but eased. Other varieties saw much less demand and witnessed heavy withdrawals. A few which sold recorded a drop of Tk 15 to Tk 25. Plainer teas suffered the most with very heavy withdrawals.

FANNINGS: A few clean Fannings met with a good demand and were generally firm but all others eased in value especially the lower medium and plainer teas. These proved difficult of sale and where sold, recorded a drop of Tk 20 or more.

CTC DUST: As many as 9,437 packages of Current Season and 10 packages of Old Season Teas on met with a fairly good demand. Select few best lines met with good competition and were about steady.

The remainder met with fair demand at easier rates following seasonal decline. Plainer teas met with a fair demand at a drop of Tk 10 to Tk 12.

Blenders operated strongly on brighter teas. Loose tea buyers were selective and operated at lower levels.
