Bangladesh Economic Association (BEA) on Saturday accorded eminent economist Dr Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad a reception for receiving the Swadhinata Padak-2019 due to his contribution to public and social welfare.
He was named, among 11 other noted personalities and one institution, for the Swadhinata Padak-2019 for their remarkable contributions at the national level.
Bangladesh Bank (BB) Governor Fazle Kabir was present as chief guest at the function at Engineers' Institution, Bangladesh.
In response to the reception, Dr. QK Ahmad said the most prestigious civilian award of the country will make him more active in the field of social services.
He said he will relentlessly work for the poor to alleviate them from poverty what he has been doing in all his life.
Dr. QK Ahmad, who is also a development thinker and activist, is currently the chairmen of Dhaka School of Economics (DScE) and Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF). PKSF is the largest rural development funding, skill development and management support agency in the country.
Speaking as the chief guest, BB Governor Fazle Kabir said Dr. Ahmad is not merely an economist rather he is a development practitioner. "Whatever he learnt, he applied in the field of real life economics," he said.
"You still have a long way to go before you sleep. Bangladesh needs your contribution," he told Dr. Ahmad.
Chairing the programme, Professor Dr Abul Barakat said Dr. Ahmad is an organic intellectual and an institute in his own way. He does not belong to any certain economic school like other economists.
