The two sides sign agreement for this in city

Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) teamed up with Sudokkho, a UK and Swiss-funded programme for skills development of the country's readymade garment (RMG) industry.

BGMEA president Dr Rubana Huq and Sudokkho team leader Erling Petersen signed a collaboration agreement at a programme in a city hotel on August 28, according to a statement issued here on Saturday.

Under the agreement, BGMEA will get technical assistance from Sudokkho for providing training consultancy service to the RMG industry.

The technical assistance will further encompass transferring Sudokkho's knowhow into the academic curriculum of BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology (BUFT).

The RMG and Textile Industry Skills Council (RTISC) and BGMEA affiliated training centres will also get technical assistance under the agreement.

Sudokkho is a seven-year private skills market development programme in Bangladesh funded by the UK aid through its Department for International Development (DFID) and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).

The programme is executed by the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) and Palladium International is the implementing organisation in consortium with SwissContact and British Council.

Sudokkho tests and scales-up market-driven, quality skills training systems within the readymade garments and construction sectors that will stimulate further investment in training by trainees, private training providers and employers, the statement added.

Sudokkho aims to ensure employment of 65,000 poor people, including women and disadvantaged populations, after successful completion of training through its partnerships with privately owned training service providers (PTPs) and industry-based training (IBT) initiatives.

BGMEA directors Asif Ibrahim, Miran Ali and Shihaboddoja Chowdhury, Sudokkho skills and employment director Suresh Mahto and its business and market development lead Ashfaq Enayetullah, among others, were present at the signing ceremony.
