City Bank launches American Express Card for DU staff

First co-branded card for educational institution

City Bank and the American Express launched the 'University of Dhaka American Express Card' on Monday for the faculty and staff of the university.

The bank has partnered with Dhaka University (DU) to introduce this co-branded credit card, aiming to make the life of faculty members and executives associated with the university more rewarding and comfortable.

City Bank Chairman Mohammed Shoeb, DU Treasurer Dr Md Kamal Uddin, former City Bank chairman and currently director Aziz Al Kaiser and the bank's Vice Chairperson Tabassum Kaiser spoke as the guests of honour at the launching ceremony at the DU Business Faculty auditorium.

Divya Jain, American Express vice president and business head, Global Network Services, South Asia, also spoke at the event.

Speaking on the occasion, City Bank Chairman Mohammed Shoeb said this is for the first time that the bank is introducing a co-branded card in partnership with an educational institution.

"The City Bank is very proud to be associated with the University of Dhaka for introducing the University of Dhaka American Express Card," he added.

DU Treasurer Kamal Uddin said a bridge has been built between City Bank, American Express and the DU through the formal launch of the University of Dhaka American Express Card.

Commenting on the partnership, Ms Divya Jain said she was proud to be associated in this coming together of City Bank and the DU to introduce the card.

"City Bank has been our sole card issuer and merchant acquirer in Bangladesh since 2009. We have collaborated well over the years to deliver a greater level of product innovation and established a premium card product within the Bangladesh Card market and will continue to do so," she said.

Today marks a new milestone for American Express & City Bank as they partner with the University of Dhaka, she added.

The card issued by the City Bank offers customised services and benefits to suit the lifestyle needs of the employees associated with the university.

Apart from this, immediately after the approval of the card, the members will be presented with welcome vouchers offering savings in various stores.

Holders of this card do not need to pay any annual fees and they can also get one free Supplementary Card.

The card offers its members attractive benefits that are associated with the American Express brand.

Sohail RK Hussain, managing director and CEO of the City Bank, Mashrur Arefin, additional managing director of the bank, and Kurush P Dastoor, director, global network services, South Asia, American Express, were also present.
