With its investment in advanced technologies and use of finer fabrics, Bangladesh has emerged as a lucrative denim sourcing destination to the global buyers, participants at a denim show said.

The two-day 'Bangladesh Denim Show' kicked off Wednesday at the International Convention City Bashundhara, focusing on equality in the supply chain to develop better working relationship.

"Bangladesh is no more known only for basic garment producing country, as it has now turned itself into value-added item manufacturer, especially in the denim segment," a top official of a Spanish multinational clothing company said.

The local makers are now making investments in new technologies used in washing, dyeing and finishing and developing their own design, he said.

He was talking to the FE on the sidelines of the eighth edition of the show where some 61 exhibitors from 14 countries, including Bangladesh, China, Turkey, Pakistan and India are displaying their latest designs and products.

MS Hasan, director of Amber Denim Ltd,. said his company has reduced water consumption by 50 per cent as they have installed modern technologies in washing denim fabric.

Bangladesh is a lucrative market for global brands and buyers, especially for the UK and EU, said Oguz Aksoy, area sales manager of Denim Co, a Turkish denim fabric maker.
