E-commerce fair in Mymensingh attracts visitors

A day-long e-commerce fair in Mymensingh city attracted a large number of visitors on Saturday, said the organisers.

The fair took place at Town Hall in the city with the participation of country's top e-commerce sites and other online-based platforms.

Bangladesh Post Office (BPO) and E-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (ECAB) jointly organised the event.

BPO's immediate past director general Shushanta Kumar Mondal inaugurated the fair as the chief guest.

After inaugurating the fair, a seminar was held for the local investors.

Young professional of Access to Information of e-commerce team Shaila Kader was the chief discussant at the seminar while Abdul Wahed Tomal, general secretary of the e-CAB, presided over it.

A total of 31 stalls including two pavilions and three mini pavilions took part at the fair.

At the fair, country's largest e-commerce delivery network -e-post, rokomari, priyoshop, grameenphone's e-commerce site Shoparu, Singer, totthoapa, foodcorner, a2i, Creative IT and others participated in the fair.

The organisers said they are arranging the fair with a view to making the online-based services popular among people of all walks of life outside of the capital.

Talking to the FE, Mr Tomal said BPO and fair specially attracted young people and the visitors bought various types of products ahead of Eid festival.

Through this fair, the e-CAB wants to extend and expand the e-commerce business across the country as it is still based on Dhaka, he said.

The e-CAB is organising a series of fairs across eight divisional headquarters started with Chattogram and will end May 18 in the capital Dhaka.

Participating organisations declared discount, shopping voucher and other gifts for the visitors.

In addition, there was raffle draw every hour where visitors won mobile and other gift items. Some visitors received one litre edible oil through app downloading. They got different gift items like book after attending the fair.

The fair remained open for all from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Asikul Alam Khan, founder and CEO of PriyoShop.com, was present, among others, on the occasion.
