Muhammad A. (Rumee) Ali, Chief Executive Officer of Bangladesh International Arbitration Centre (BIAC), has emphasised the need of training on Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) to cater to the increasing requirement of businesses to settle disputes outside the court in an expeditious and amicable manner.

He was speaking while inaugurating a two-day training course on arbitration and mediation at the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh in the city recently, says a press release.

He said the ADR method is an increasingly popular dispute resolution means in Bangladesh, especially in commercial and business transactions.

Use of ADR in resolution of disputes between parties in financial and corporate sectors is essential for bankers, lawyers, entrepreneurs, corporate leaders and students of law, he observed.

Explaining BIAC's own Rules of Arbitration and Mediation, he stressed the need for being acclimatised with the methods and use of ADR.

He called upon the trainees to become members of BIAC and contribute to its efforts in adopting international best practices on ADR for resolving commercial disputes in the country.

The training programme was organised by the BIAC. 29 officials and representatives from banks, financial institutions, corporate houses, lawyers, university teachers and students of law participated in the programme.

On the first day of the training course Barrister Nabil Ahsan and Barrister Kazi Akhtar Hosain conducted sessions on arbitration.

The training sessions on mediation were conducted by Barrister Khaja Salauddin Ahmed and Advocate Fariha Zaman on the second day.

M A Akmall Hossain Azad, Director, BIAC, gave away certificates among participants of the training course on both days. Ms. Mahbuba Rahman Runa, General Manager, BIAC, coordinated the programme.
