Bangladeshi furniture brand Hatil has been using state of the art technologies like robots in its factory to widen its global presence.

Use of the latest technology helps the company manufacture world class furniture, ensure maximum output, consume less time and reduce environmental hazard, said its officials.

The company recently organised a programme for a group of journalists to visit its factory, which has already been recognised by the international experts as the largest wooden furniture manufacturing facility in south Asia.

With the help of a Germany-based consultancy farm, Hatil installed full-fledged modern machinery such as robotic-cutting machine, CNC machine, knitting machine, bolding machine, robotic spray and UV curving machine.

The equipments have mostly been imported from Germany, Italy, Japan and America.

The factory, established on over 20 acres of land in Savar Zirani Bazar, is capable of manufacturing 48,000 pieces of furniture every month.

The company now exports its furniture to 17 countries including India, Nepal, Bhutan, USA, Canada, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait, Egypt and Russia after meeting the local demand.

It also opened 17 showrooms in India, Bhutan and Nepal with own brand name while a good number of them are waiting for inauguration.

Regarding the company's achievement so far, Chairman and Managing Director (MD) of the company, Selim H Rahman said Hatil has been playing a significant role for popularising furniture making as a large-scale industry from cottage industry.

"Hatil is one the very few Bangladeshi companies, which distribute and export furniture with its own brand name," he said.

Business development adviser of Hatil Complex Limited, Dewan Atif Rashid said that unlike many Bangladeshi businesses, Hatil exports its products with its own brand name.

"We are not simply exporting our products, we continue to help improve Bangladesh's brand images in other nations," he said.

He also said that being a quality-driven company all kinds of best practices are followed in Hatil's businesses.

Hatil is manufacturing furniture in this factory by importing solid woods from many countries like United States and Germany. IT also produces many raw materials like foam, plywood, particle board in the same factory complex.

During the visit, the factory was found busy with various activities from processing solid wood to packaging the final product for shipment.

"Earlier, we needed eight to nine hours for coating the wooden boards in the manual system, which now requires only nine minutes with the help of UV machine," Mr. Rashid said.

At another floor, a robotic arm was seen spraying over the furniture.

Use of robot helps ensure the best finishing of a product in the shortest possible time, an official said, adding that the process also reduces health hazard for the workers.

"We heavily increased the use of machinery here, but didn't lay off workers," he said, adding that they have been shifted to new departments.

The Hatil Complex created 2,300 direct employments in its factory.

Starting the journey since 1989, the company also contributes to the society through various activities. Management of the company, under its corporate social responsibility, established a school for the kids of its staffs.
