The Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) urged the visiting Chinese entrepreneurs on Monday to invest in manufacturing of machinery in Bangladesh.

The trade body made the call during a meeting between the board of directors of DCCI and a Chinese delegation from Yunnan Province.

The DCCI leaders also urged the Chinese team to help facilitate technology transfer and skill development in Bangladesh for diversification of the flower sector.

Yunnan Province is one of the largest provinces in China that manufacture machinery. The province has also demonstrated high expertise in flower production.

At the meeting, DCCI President Osama Taseer invited the Chinese entrepreneurs to invest in the machinery manufacturing industry.

Bangladesh's 'Look East' policy is essentially designed to open up new avenues of cooperation with China and the ASEAN, he said.

Electrical and electronics, agriculture, tourism, flower, medicine, connectivity and maritime could be some of the potential sectors the two countries could go for joint ventures, he added.

Yuan Lin, deputy director, foreign trade division, department of commerce, Yunnan province, led the Chinese delegation.

He said, "Yunnan is the fourth largest machinery manufacturer province in China and they are interested to invest in Bangladesh."
