Job fair for people with disability

CHATTOGRAM, Apr 8: The Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), Bangladesh Business and Disability Network, BRAC and YPSA organised a job fair for physically challenged people in the city on Saturday.

This is the first-ever job fair organised in the port city to provide jobs for the people with disabilities.

Chattogram Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Iqbal Bahar inaugurated the fair at the World Trade Centre as the chief guest, with CCCI President Mahbubul Alam in the chair.

A total of 170 job seekers joined the fair and they were interviewed by senior officials from 17 organisations.

At the fair, KSRM, Clifton Group, Lub-rref (Bangladesh) Ltd, Maf Shoes, RSB Industrial, Chittagong Grammar School and Sanko Optics issued on-the-spot appointment letter to one disabled person each through the chief guest.

Also, some other firms have appointed as many as 40 persons with disability, according to a statement of the CCCI.

Bangladesh Employers Federation President Kamran T Rahman attended the job fair as the guest of honour while TVET and Skill Development Specialist of ILO (International Labor Organisation) Ligaya Laoeng Dumaoang and Executive Committee Co-chairman of National Skills Development Council Salahuddin Kasem Khan, also honorary consul of Turkey, were present as special guests.

PHP family chairman Sufi Mizanur Rahman, BBDN executive committee co-chairman Murtaza Rafi Khan, ILO Disability Consultant Albert Molla, CCCI directors AKM Akhtar Hossain, Ahid Siraj Chowdhury and Anjan Shekhar Das, and representatives of BGMEA, BKMEA and different corporate houses were present on the occasion.
