Envoy pledges support to boost Dhaka-KL trade ties

Malaysian High Commissioner in Dhaka Nur Ashikin Binti Mohd Taib on Thursday assured Bangladeshi businesspeople of providing all possible support to boost bilateral trade and investment between Bangladesh and Malaysia. She made the assurance when the newly-elected members of the Board of Directors of Bangladesh-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI) led by its President Syed Moazzam Hossain met her. She thanked the BMCCI leaders for their roles in promoting bilateral trade between Bangladesh and Malaysia. The High Commissioner assured her of all-out support to all BMCCI activities. The BMCCI leaders drew the High Commissioner's attention to the issue of harassment at Kuala Lumpur Immigration and requested her to take the initiative to stop harassing genuine businesspeople at the Immigration department. The BMCCI president, in a memorandum, submitted to the High Commissioner noted that Bangladesh regards Malaysia as one of the major sources of foreign direct investment (FDI). He noted that Malaysia is also one of the largest investors in Bangladesh. The BMCCI president said that the BMCCI is going to organise the 5th Showcase Bangladesh 2018 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia sometime in September/October. He said that Bangladesh High Commission in Malaysia is going to organise Bangladesh Festival in Kuala Lumpur on March 21-24. In conjunction with this, the BMCCI is exploring possibilities of organising Bangladesh Trade and Investment seminar in cooperation with Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA). BMCCI along with BIDA and the Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) will jointly organise the ICT Fair in Kuala Lumpur in April. BMCCI is also going to organise seminar on 'Role of Private Sector in Achieving SDG' in 2030 in the second week of February in Dhaka. Among others, BMCCI vice president Syed Almas Kabir, secretary general Shabbir Ahmed Khan, treasurer Mohammad Badrul Hassan and secretary Hasanur Rahman Chowdhury were present during the meeting.— UNB

Metal Agro wins accolade at Veg fair

Metal Agro Limited participated in the recently-concluded Vegetable Fair 2018, held in Dhaka with its product "Metal Seed." The company won the first prize for best vegetable and technology demonstration. The stall was given the appearance of an original farm and the displayed products were mostly original vegetable grown from Metal Seed. Metal Agro Limited was founded in 2003 with the goal of seed genetic development, seed production and quality control. It facilitates high-quality seed storing, packing and customer delivery. "Metal Seed" is one of the largest vegetable seed companies in Bangladesh, which offers more than 100 hybrids and open pollinated varieties of 25 different crops globally. — Statement
