Malaysia seeks FBCCI support to export mission

Malaysian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Nur Ashikin Binti Mohd Taib on Wednesday sought cooperation of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) to hold the 'Export Acceleration Mission' to be held in Dhaka during November 11-12. She made the request during a meeting with Acting President of FBCCI Sheikh Fazle Fahim at the FBCCI office in the city on Wednesday. Some 15 Malaysian business entities from investment, export and FMGG sectors would take part in the event. The mission aims at looking into business opportunities in Bangladesh, collaborating with the Bangladeshi companies and setting up joint ventures. Mr. Fahim emphasised on expansion of bilateral trade utilising the loopholes of the economic cooperation with Malaysia. Bangladesh exported goods like knitwear, woven garments, agricultural products, engineering products and plastics worth US$ 232.42 million to Malaysia in 2017-18 while importing goods like animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products, machinery and mechanical appliances worth US$ 1,363.10 million, according to FBCCI. — Statement

Trade thru Benapole remains suspended

The export and import activities through Benapole land port remained suspended due to Kali Puja on Wednesday.Kartik Chakrawarty, general secretary of Benapole C&F Staff Welfare Association, said the trade activities between Bangladesh and India remained suspended since Wednesday morning as there is a holiday on Indian side due to Kali puja. Uttam Chakma, assistant commissioner of Benapole Customs House, said hundreds of goods-laden trucks remained stranded at Petrapole port due to the holiday. — UNB
