RCCI leaders seek to boost trade with SAARC nations

RANGPUR, Dec 31 (BSS): Leaders of Rangpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) on Sunday laid emphasis on enhancing trade and commerce with the SAARC nations to speed up economic development in the region.

They also stressed the need to create young entrepreneurs in order to promote private-sector enterprises, trade, commerce and investment for rapid industrialisation so that more jobs are created for unemployed youths in the region.

They made the remarks at the annual general meeting (AGM)-2017 of RCCI held at its auditorium, with RCCI President Mostafa Sohrab Chowdhury Titu in the chair.

The RCCI president presented annual report on RCCI activities, audit report, statements of accounts, revised budget for 2017 and the proposed budget for 2018-19 fiscal. The meeting adopted them unanimously after a discussion.

Former FBCCI vice-president Mostafa Azad Chowdhury Babu, FBCCI Director Mosaddek Hossain Bablu, RCCI Senior Vice-President Mostoba Hossain Ripan, former RCCI president Abul Kashem and former vice-president Mozammel Hossain participated in the discussion.

Former senior vice-president of RCCI Mohammad Jahangir, former junior vice-president Ramakrishna Somani, former director Fazlul Haque and members Ruhul Amin Litan, Sultan Mahmud, Harunur Rashid and Fakhrul Anam Benzu also spoke.

The speakers called for steps to bring more dynamism in RCCI activities, set up industries in the private sector, enhance trade and business to accelerate economic advancement of Rangpur division.

In his speech, RCCI president Mostafa said the RCCI board of directors has resolved various problems facing local entrepreneurs, industrialists and businesspersons in the export-import, banking and VAT-tax sectors through discussions with the authorities concerned.

"The present board of directors of RCCI will continue to assist local businesspersons to protect business-related interests," he said and sought their cooperation in ensuring a congenial business atmosphere.

"We will continue our efforts along with the government and regional initiatives to speed up development in Rangpur division through promoting private sector industries, enterprises and investments jointly with the SAARC nations," he added.
