Set up monitoring desk at DCs' offices: Supro

Implementation of SDGs

FE Report | September 25, 2018 00:00:00

An alliance of non-governmental organisations (NGO) called on the government to set up a separate desk at each district commissioner's office to ensure better monitoring on the implementation of SDGs in the country.

The Sushasoner Jonny Procharavijan (Supro) also demanded that the government prepare a working plan involving extremely underprivileged communities for the implementation of SDGs.

Supro placed a seven-point demand at a press conference on 'Leave no one behind: demand and equality for all,' at the Dhaka Reporters Unity on Monday ahead of the third anniversary of the launch of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by the UN.

General secretary of the alliance MA Quader and its vice-chairperson Manju Rani Pramanik and woman leader Firoza Begum attended the press conference.

MA Quader said the SDGs are designed to establish a world free from hunger and inequality.

To achieve the development goals by 2030, the government must play the most crucial role in terms of priority setting, policymaking, financing and evaluation of progress, he said.

"The government should also be responsible for coordination among the implementation agencies and equal wealth distribution," he added.

Likewise, private sectors, entrepreneurs, development workers and other stakeholders should also join forces to implement the SDGs, he suggested.
