Shahid Hamid, Executive Director of Dhaka Regency Hotel and Resort, has been elected as a member of the Executive Board of Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Worldwide.
The election was held during the PATA Annual Summit held in Gangwon-do, South Korea, recently, says a statement.
This is the first time in its PATA's 67 years history that it has elected a Bangladeshi citizen to its Executive Board, a policy-making body consisting of only 12 members from 95 national tourism organisations affiliated with the association.
Hamid, who has 40 years experience in the hospitality and tourism industry, has been serving as the Chairman of PATA Bangladesh Chapter since 2014, a position he will continue to hold in addition to his new appointment.
PATA operates a total of 55 chapters around the globe with thousands of travel professionals as its members.
It is a non-profit association that primarily focuses on promotion and responsible development of travel and tourism in Asia Pacific region.
