CHITTAGONG, Mar 28: The commissioner of Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) has instructed the authority concerned to take appropriate action after enquiry against a meter reader who allegedly tried to instigate a consumer to commit suicide as he complained about submission of an inflated-electricity bill (ghost billing).

ACC Commissioner Dr Nasir Dr Nasir Uddin Ahmed made the instruction following similar allegations made by a number of subscribers in different areas of the Chittagong city during a mass hearing, organised by the Power Development Board (PDB) Chittagong at its head office at Agrabad on Wednesday morning.

Dr Nasir Uddin asked PDB Chief Engineer in Chittagong Prabir Kumar Sen to investigate allegations, made by Md Abu Bakar, a consumer and resident of New Mooring under Halishahar in the port city, against Md Omar, meter reader of the area.

Abu Bakar alleged that Md Omar submitted to him a 'ghost bill' (inflated electricity consumption bill) for February 2018 which mentioned that he consumed a surprisingly bigger amount of power in that month, which he did not. The amount of money mentioned in the bill is in contradiction with that in the electric meter, Abu Bakar said.

The amount of money mentioned in the bill is many times bigger than what ought to be, he alleged during the hearing.

Divisional Director Akhtar Hossain and senior officials of the ACC and PDB were present at the hearing.
