The state-owned Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) will start selling commodities at subsidised rates across the country on April 22 on the occasion of holy Ramadan beginning next month, reports BSS.
"The TCB is likely to start selling commodities across the country, including the capital, for Ramadan on April 22 at a lower price, compared to the prices at retail markets," said M Shekhabur Rahman, chief officer (commercial) of TCB.
Under the programme, the TCB will sell 2000 to 2500 tonnes of edible oil, 2000 tonnes of sugar, 1000 to 1100 tonnes of lentil, 1500 tonnes of chickpea and 100 tonnes of dates.
A total of 2,827 dealers will sell these commodities at 187 spots across the country, with goods loaded on trucks -- 35 spots in the capital, 10 spots in Chattogram, five spots each in all the divisions and one each in all the district headquarters.
The TCB will launch the sales operation ahead of the holy month of Ramadan to help low-income people cope with the possible hike in the prices of daily commodities. However, the prices of these commodities are yet to be fixed by the government, said the official.
The sale spots in the capital include Secretariat Gate, Jatiya Press Club, Kaptan Bazaar, Victoria Park, Science Lab intersection, New Market-Nilkhet intersection, Shaymoli-Kalyanpur, Jhigatola intersection, Khamarbari at Farmgate, Kalmilata Bazar, Rajanigandha Supermarket at Kachukhet, Agargaon Taltola and Election Commission Office, Rajlaxmi Complex at Uttara, Mirpur-1 Mazar Road, and Shantinagar Bazaar.
