Thrust on adequate fund allocation for fire safety

Experts at a training programme on Thursday suggested allocating adequate fund for fire safety in industrial units and households.

They also stressed the need for setting up of necessary fire extinguishers in every buildings and factories while allocating sufficient resources for the fire safety department.

They put forward the recommendations at the training programme titled 'Fire Prevention and Fire Control Measures' organised by the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) at its auditorium in the capital.

Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defense Directorate supported the programme, with 40 participants from Bangladesh Chemical and Perfumery Merchant Association and Bangladesh Plastic Packaging, Roll Manufacturers and Owners Association.

The programme was divided into two different sessions, conducted by deputy assistant directors of the Fire Service Directorate Khandakar Abdul Jalil and Johirul Islam.

The apex trade body is putting special emphasis on fire control training for its member bodies after the recent devastating fire incidents in Churihatta, FR Tower, Gulshan DCC market, Khilgaon and Malibag kitchen market.

It has been working for a long term solution of fire safety risks after the devastating fire incident at Churihatta in the old part of Dhaka on February 21.

The FBCCI is also working on old Dhaka with the Dhaka South City Corporation, Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defense Directorate, other concerned government bodies and different trade associations.

FBCCI director Helena Jahangir inaugurated the training programme, saying that if any association of the FBCCI likes to organise such training programme, necessary support will be provided from the apex trade body.

FBCCI secretary general Hussain Jamil and other senior executives were present at the programme.
