World Youth Skills Day today

July 15, 2019 00:00:00

The World Youth Skills Day (WYSD)-2019 will be observed in the country as elsewhere in the world today (Monday) with the theme 'Learning to learn for life and work'.

The aim of WYSD is to advocate for skills as an important factor to improve young people's transitions to decent work, and to highlight the crucial role of skilled youth in addressing today's most challenging global issues, reports BSS.

President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate messages on the eve of the day.

The President, in his message, said the worldwide observance of the day will play an important role to develop the skills of the young generation and encourage them to succeed in life.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in her message, said the spirit of the WYSD is to turn the jobless youth into human resources through providing them technical and vocational education and imparting training for developing skills. "This matter is now our priority," she said.

An elaborate programme has been taken to highlight the significance of the day, a press release said. To mark the day, National Skills Development Authority (NSDA) will arrange a discussion in the city's Bangabandhu International Conference Centre.

Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni will attend the discussion as the chief guest while Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Imran Ahmad and Prime Minister 's Principal Secretary Md. Nojibur Rahman will attend it as the special guests.

Prime Minister's Office (PMO) Secretary Sajjadul Hassan will preside over the discussion.

The United Nations, at its General Assembly in November 2014, declared July 15 as World Youth Skills Day.
