WASHINGTON, Oct 10: US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday his second summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un would be held after US congressional elections on Nov 06. Speaking to reporters as he flew to Iowa for a political rally, Trump said: "It'll be after the midterms. I just can't leave now."--Reuters

Pakistan appoints spy

ISLAMABAD, Oct 10: Pakistan has appointed a new leader for its powerful Inter-Services Intelligence service, which plays a key role in coordinating its foreign policy, including with regard to the war in neighboring Afghanistan. The military said on Wednesday that Lt Gen Asim Munir was chosen to replace Lt. Gen, Naveed Mukhtar, who retired earlier this month. Munir previously headed Military Intelligence and was a field commander. He was awarded the Hilal-i-Imtiaz, a top medal, earlier this year.--AP

Eight die in Majorca flash flood

MADRID, Oct 10: Eight people have died and several others are missing in flash floods on the Spanish holiday island of Majorca, emergency services said Wednesday. "The number of victims due to yesterday's intense rain has risen to eight," they said on Twitter.-AFP

Japan urges Myanmar to conduct

credible Rohingya probe

TOKYO, Oct 10: Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe told Myanmar's leader Tuesday that a credible investigation into alleged human rights violations against Rohingya Muslims is key to resolving tensions in the country's Rakhine state. Abe told a joint news conference after holding talks with Aung San Suu Kyi that Japan will support efforts by Myanmar to accommodate Rohingya who return home from refugee camps in neighboring Bangladesh.—AP

India train derailment kills five

LUCKNOW, Oct 10: Police say an express train has partially derailed in northern India, killing five passengers and injuring dozens more. Police director general OP Singh said rescuers have responded to the scene where the train's engine and five cars derailed about 5:30 a.m. Wednesday. It occurred at a railway station in Rae Bareli, 80 kilometres (50 miles) southwest of Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh state. At least 35 passengers were injured and taken to hospitals.-AP

Hong Kong to ban e-cigarettes

HONG KONG, Oct 10: Hong Kong plans to ban e-cigarettes and other new smoking products to protect public health, the leader of the semi-autonomous Chinese territory said on Wednesday. Carrie Lam said in an annual policy address that her government was drawing up proposed legislation to forbid the import, manufacture, sale, distribution and advertisement of products used in the pastime known as vaping.—AP

Argentina protests military exercises

BUENOS AIRES, Oct 10: Argentina has made a formal protest with the British embassy in Buenos Aires to reject Britain's military exercises in the Falkland Islands, the foreign ministry said on Tuesday. The two countries fought a war in 1982 in the South Atlantic islands ruled by Britain, and known in the Spanish-speaking world as the Malvinas. Buenos Aires has "taken notice" that these exercises will take place from October 15-29 and will include missile launches, the ministry said in a statement.-AP

Four migrants perish in

Turkey boat capsize

ISTANBUL, Oct 10: At least four illegal migrants died when a boat sank off Turkey's Aegean coast on Wednesday, local media reported. According to the state-run Anadolu Agency, the mishap occurred near the Karaburun District in the province of Izmir. The coast guards found four bodies in the sea, rescued one woman, and were still searching for 30 others who were reported missing, the agency said. —Xinhua
