Russia deploys S-400 missiles in Arctic

MOSCOW, Sept 16: Russia has placed S-400 missile defence systems at the Novaya Zemlya archipelago as Moscow seeks to increase its military presence in the Arctic, the defence ministry said on Monday. The surface to air-missile regiment of the Northern Fleet's air defence forces based on the archipelago's southern Yuzhny Island has been fully equipped with new S-400 systems, the fleet said. —AFP

Libyan navy rescue 300 illegal immigrants

TRIPOLI, Sept 16: Libyan navy on Sunday said it rescued 300 illegal immigrants on three rubber boats off the country's western coast. "Coast guards patrol rescued 300 immigrants on three rubber boats northwest Tripoli," navy spokesman Ayob Qassem told Xinhua. The rescued immigrants are of different African nationalities and include women and children, Qassem said. — Xinhua

Boko Haram kills five soldiers in Cameroon

YAOUNDE, Sept 16: At least five Cameroonian soldiers were killed Saturday night by Boko Haram in a fight in Soueram, a locality in the country's Far North region, the army confirmed on Sunday. Militants of the group burned houses and property and attacked a military command post in the locality, according to the army. —Xinhua

Seven perish in Colombia small plane crash

BOGOTA, Sept 16: At least seven people were killed and another three injured when a small plane crashed in southwestern Colombia on Sunday, a firefighter said."Nine people were on board the plane. Seven died, while two are seriously injured," Juan Carlos Ganan, the commander of firefighters in the area, said. —AFP
