Detainee allegedly tortured in Sudan dies
KHARTOUM, July 21: A Sudanese civilian detained and allegedly tortured by security agents in a central town has died in custody, a doctors committee linked to the country's protest movement said Sunday. The man died on Saturday in the town of Dilling in the state of South Kordofan after he was detained by agents of the feared National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS), the doctors committee said in a statement. — AFP

Woman beheads mother in Australia
SYDNEY, July 21: An Australian woman charged with murder has been sent for a medical assessment amid reports she decapitated her mother and left the head outside a neighbour's house. Police said the body of a 57-year-old woman was found inside her Sydney home on Saturday night, in what they described as one of the "most horrific" crime scenes they had seen. The woman's 25-year-old daughter was arrested in the front garden of a neighbour's house after allegedly putting her mother's head on the footpath outside, the Daily Telegraph newspaper reported. — AFP
Russia's manned spacecraft enters orbit
MOSCOW, July 21: Russia's Soyuz MS-13 spacecraft carrying three astronauts successfully took off for the International Space Station (ISS) and entered the planned orbit Saturday, Russian state space corporation Roscosmos said. The Soyuz-FG rocket blasted off from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan at 19:28 Moscow time (1628 GMT), Roscosmos said in a press release. At 19:37 Moscow time (1637 GMT), the spacecraft detached from the third launch vehicle stage and continued its autonomous flight to the ISS under the guidance of specialists from the Russian Mission Control Centre. — Xinhua
