0.35m hectares of land under Boro cultivation in Jessore

JESSORE, Mar 11 (BSS): A total of 0.35 million hectares of land were brought under Boro cultivation in six districts of the Jessore agriculture region during the current season with fixing the production target of 14,01,922 tonnes of rice, Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) officials said on Wednesday.

They said farmers cultivated Boro paddy on 1,50,037 hectares of land with production target 6,02,927 tonnes of rice in Jessore, 82,046 hectares of land in Jhenidah with production target 3,23,927 tonnes, 31,776 hectares of land in Magura with production target 1,26,722 tonnes, 32,690 hectares of land in Kushtia with production target 1,29,635 tonnes, 33,215 hectares of land in Chuadanga with production target 1,32,391 tonnes and 21,781 hectares of land in Meherpur with production target 86,320 tonnes of rice .

Now, the farmers are so much busy to nurture their crop for getting desired output, this correspondent found while visiting different places of the districts recently.

Deputy Director of Jessore DAE Dr. Sunil Kumar said making Boro cultivation a grand success, necessary measures had been taken to provide fertilizers, insecticides and other agri inputs to the farmers at fair prices.

Favorable weather and availability of agricultural inputs including fertilizers had inspired the cultivators to take all-out efforts for farming Boro paddy in this region, he said.

Farmers already have completed planting of Boro paddy everywhere in six districts under Jessore region in attaining hundred percent of the target fixed by DAE.

To this end, coordinated efforts have been taken by all concerned departments and organisations in popularizing the latest agriculture technologies among the farmers to make the Boro farming programme successful, local agricultural officials said.
