0.84m families in Rangpur get rice at Tk 10 per kg

RANGPUR, Mar 21 (BSS): The Department of Food started selling rice at Tk 10 per kg rate among 0.84 million families under the government's 'Food-friendly programme' to make rice available for the ultra poor at a very low price.

"Each card holder family is getting 30 kg rice monthly at Tk 10 per kg for March and April in the first phase under the programme," Rangpur Regional Controller of Food Mohammad Raihanul Kabir told the news agency.

The programme is running smoothly bringing relief to the ultra poor during five-month lean periods annually since September 7, 2016 when Prime Minsiter Sheikh Hasina launched the initiative under the social safety net scheme.

The rice is being sold at Tk 10 per kg under the programme for five months of March and April in the first phase and September, October and November in the second phase annually.
