1,200 people earn living by making mattresses in Bogra

BOGRA, Nov 09: Some 1,200 artisans across the district are now passing busy time in making mattresses.

Sources said the peak season for the artisans starts from October and it is to continue till February. During the period, the artisans earn Tk 1000 to Tk 1200 daily.

To prepare a quality mattress, an artisan needs to spend Tk 1500 to Tk 2000 and sale it at Tk 2500 to Tk 3000. Cotton, coir and garments wastes are used to make a mattress.

"I along with an assistant prepare five to six mattresses daily," said Aminur Rahman of Sauil village under Adamdighi upazila.

A good number of artisans urged the authority concerned to arrange short-term loan facilities for them to run their business smoothly.
