24,781 ultra-poor under programme in Magura

MAGURA, Mar 14: Magura district food office started selling rice at Tk 10 on March 10. A total of 2,4781 ultra-poor people have been enlisted under the programme.

Sources said rice price is high in the market at present. In this situation the programme is a relief for the poor.

The district food office sources said among the 24,781 people, 7,095 in Sadar, 6,567 in Mohaddampur,1,997 in Salikha and 9,122 in Sreepur upazilas.

A total of 67 dealers have been recruited to run the programme in the district.

The enlisted poor will get 30 kg rice per month at Tk 10.

Shibani Biswas an ultra-poor women of village Kullia under Magura sadar upazila told , "At present rice is being sold in the local market at Tk 45 per kg .I was facing hard time due to price hike of rice .But rice at 10 Tk has relieved me."

Chand Ali of Jagdal village under Magura Sadar said, "We are getting quality rice at Tk 10 only."

Aktaruzzaman, a dealer of Magura Sadar, said, "We are getting good response from the programme."

Magura district food controller Md Rezaul Islam said, "The programme ensures quality also. The poor are getting quality rice at a low rate."
