4 killed in road accidents

JESSORE, Mar 15: Four persons including two businessmen were killed and 10 others were injured in two separate road accidents at Basundia and Churamankathi under Jessore Sadar Upazila Tuesday. The dead were identified as fish trader M Sumon Mia (50) of Chansra Colonypara and Abdul Aziz (60) of Chansra Madhyapara and Milon (20), son of Abdur Rahim and Shahin (21), son of Sirajul Islam of Lalitadah village in Jessore. Two elderly men were killed and 9 others were injured while a pick-up van in which the victims were going to Prembagh under Nawapara industrial town after buying fish fry from Chansra in Jessore town turned turtle into a roadside ditch as the driver lost control over the steering at around 8am. Injured Rezaul, Bipul, Rashid, Shafiar, Delwar, Jabed, ,Litu, Rafiq and Aminur were rushed to the Jessore General Hospital with critical injuries. In another accident that took place at around 12 noon at Churamankathi left two young motor bike riders killed on the spot while a human hauler, locally known as Nasiman, hit the motor bike on which the two deceased were coming towards Jessore town. Chinese workers on strike at Nawapara power plant Another report adds: A total of 54 employees including 5 engineers of the under construction Nawapara 105 MW rental power plant have been observing strike for a week for non-compliance of terms and conditions by the employers. Project director of the power plant, Nurul Islam told journalists that an agreement was made between two Chinese firms, Ten How and PDV, with Quantum Power System Ltd. A contractor named Joni involved the two Chinese firms for setting up the equipment of the power plant. But he breached the contract with the Chinese who went on strike since Wednesday last. The power plant was supposed to be inaugurated on March 31. A total of 54 Chinese employees including 5 engineers are working at the power plant. The contractor was not paying salaries to the Chinese, he added.
