5 killed in road accidents

Our correspondent GOPALGANJ, Nov 10: One person was killed in a road accident on Dhaka-Khulna highway under Gopalganj sadar. Ashik Mollah (55) of village Borashi under Gopalganj sadar upazila of Gopalganj district, was coming to his office at Gopalganj district town. While he was crossing Dhaka-Khulna Highway at Mandartala under Gopalganj sadar upazila then a passenger bus (ARA paribahan) knocked him down. Ashik was seriously injured and died on way to hospital. Rangpur BSS reports: Three persons were killed and 10 others injured in a fatal road accident at Dhaperhat point on the Rangpur-Dhaka highway under Sadullapur Upazila in Gaibandha today, police sources said. Officer-in-Charge of Gobindaganj Highway Thana Delwar Hossain told BSS the accident occurred when a Rangpur bound truck (Jessore Ta 11-1705) from Dhaka and a Ghoraghat bound 'Nochhimon' collided head-on at the point at 9am. Nochhimon passengers Ariful Islam, 26, and Marjina Begum, 12, were killed on the spot while Rokeya Begum, 35, succumbed to her injuries after admission at a local Hospital. Four critically injured Nochhimon passengers have been shifted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital and some other injured were released after providing primary aids. All victims are hailing from nearby Ghoraghat upazila in Dinajpur and they were returning home by the rented Nochhimon after attending a marriage ceremony in Rangpur. A case was filed in this connection with Sadullapur police station, Sub-inspector Abdul Aziz of Gobindaganj Highway Thana, who conducted rescue operations, informed BSS this afternoon. Cox's Bazar UNB reports from Cox's Bazar: A woman was killed and five other people were injured in a head-on-collision between a bus and a baby taxi in Ukhia upazila on Wednesday afternoon. The deceased were identified as bay taxi passenger Arefa Begum, 22, wife of Nurul Alam, of village Ghumdhum Jalpaitali in Naikhongchhari upazila of Bandarban district. Witnesses said the Teknaf bound bus collided with Cox's Bazar town bound baby taxi near Kutupalong Rohingya camp in the upazila, leaving Arefa dead on the spot and four other baby tax passengers and a pedestrian injured at around 4pm. The injured Yasmin, 18, Syed Alam, 60, Shaker Alam, 15, Taslima, 11, and pedestrian Fatema Begum, 20, were admitted to Ukhia health complex. Police recovered the body and sent it to hospital morgue for autopsy.
